Best Myprotein Flavours

Last Updated: November 27 2024

Most people who are looking to supplement their protein intake will have at least heard of Myprotein. They have a solid seat in the health and fitness industry for delivering protein powders that are very effective at valuable in any physique-building program.

One of their selling points is the very accommodating menu of flavours it comes in. If you’re a regular with a protein shake, you’ll be very familiar with that feeling of dread when you’re about to down a shake you either can’t stand the taste of, or you’re sick to death of.

Having some variety can be hugely beneficial when you’re having to stick to a supplementary drink. But my first thought when I saw Myprotein’s 50+ flavours was, do they actually taste nice? Do they taste as good as their names, or is it just a list of fancy suggestions that still only deliver that same chalky, synthetic aftertaste?

I was about to go big on a training program, so took the opportunity to commit to trying all the flavours. Obviously, some of it comes down to personal preferences and your own taste buds, so I noted overall taste, but also consistency, nutritional value, and digestibility in each Myprotein whey protein shake.

The results are in…

Best Myprotein Flavours & Ones To Avoid

Myprotein is now one of the biggest sellers of protein shakes and as such they have enough demand to offer the largest range of flavours on the UK market.

They have come a long way since their incorporation in 2004, and following acquisition by The Hut Group in 2011 they have become one of the fastest-growing supplements globally and the biggest protein supplement brand in Europe.

Being based in the UK (Manchester) is a plus in our book.

Although I wasn’t exactly thrilled to be taking on 55 different MyProtein flavours, my quest to find the best MyProtein flavour seemed like a noble one, and one that would open me (and hopefully you) up to more options than the standard chocolate, banana, strawberry and vanilla that have dominated the market for decades.

10 Best Myprotein Flavours

In all honesty, I don’t think many of us are ever going to use a different flavour every single time we have a protein shake. We typically figure out which are the best ones, and rotate that select few.

Here are the top 10 I found to be the best-tasting, with the best consistency and most suitable nutritional value.

  1. Vanilla and Raspberry
  2. Chocolate Brownie
  3. Vanilla
  4. Unflavoured
  5. Chocolate Mint
  6. Summer Fruits
  7. Natural Strawberry
  8. Salted Caramel
  9. Banana
  10. Chocolate Coconut

1. Vanilla and Raspberry

MyProtein Whey Nutritional Information Vanilla and Raspberry

Myprotein have mixed the classic vanilla flavour here with a dash of refreshing raspberry flavouring and we have to say it is one of our favourite flavours out of all 55!

This tastes good whether you mix it with water or with milk, and the consistency of both protein shakes is excellent.

We used a standard Myprotein shaker and we didn’t have any lumps with the milk, providing a much creamier consistency as well as making for a perfect flavour combination.

The vanilla flavour is not too strong, but there are enough subtle hints of it throughout to make a sweet but not sickly shake. With 21g of protein per scoop and a mix that was easy to digest, we found vanilla and raspberry to be one of the stars of the bunch.

2. Chocolate Brownie

MyProtein Whey Nutritional Information Chocolate Brownie

Despite being chocolate lovers in the office (and let’s be honest, who isn’t), we aren’t necessarily all overly fond of chocolate flavoured drinks – but the Myprotein Chocolate Brownie flavour was one that garnered universal approval.

A slightly lower 18g of protein per scoop was the only real negative (Edit: This is now 21g of protein), but this is more than made up for by the smooth and rich taste of chocolate brownie that we found with this protein powder.

It was a little watery when mixed with water (surprise surprise), but with milk the overall taste was simply sublime. There was no sense of it sitting heavy on the stomach after drinking and it gets another big protein packed thumbs up from us.

3. Vanilla

Vanilla has long been one of the main staples of protein shake flavours and if a protein manufacturer can’t manage a decent vanilla flavour, then there is a problem.

Thankfully, the Myprotein Vanilla flavour is bang on. We could have quite easily put vanilla right at the top of the tree, and if vanilla is your preference of flavour with other brands then this should be a good alternative.

Nutritionally solid, great flavour, and a smooth, easy-to-blend texture makes this one of the best flavours in the range. Sometimes the oldies are the best.

4. Unflavoured

MyProtein Whey Nutritional Information Unflavoured

Okay so this is technically not a flavour, but it’s a valid option for many of us. Lots of people prefer as natural a blend of protein as possible.

They don’t like the ‘synthetic’ taste some flavours have, and would rather go without.

Or they simply prefer to add their own flavours to their protein shake – no problem there, and the Myprotein unflavoured mix will not disappoint.

You get the same high quality as with the other flavours and a whopping 23g of protein per scoop.

Mix with fresh fruits such as banana or strawberry for added vitamin C, or mix with peanut butter for an added protein and healthy fats boost. Or, if you can stomach the lack of flavour, you can of course drink it as it is – simply mix with water or milk to your desired consistency.

5. Chocolate Mint

MyProtein Whey Nutritional Information Chocolate Mint

One of three chocolate flavours that makes our top 10 list is Chocolate Mint. This is available with Stevia or without, and we tested the standard Chocolate Mint flavour.

22g of protein per scoop are mixed with chocolate and mint loveliness to create a decadent blend that is rich and easy to stomach.

The mint element is not too overpowering and gives this flavour a freshness that takes away any sickliness that you might sometimes associate with chocolate flavours.

We found that mixing this with milk provided a lovely creamy consistency and the lump-free blend was a pleasure to drink.

6. Summer Fruits

Maybe not one for the winter months, but for those hot summer workouts sometimes you want something a little more refreshing on the palate when you’re all hot and sweaty.

When the last thing you want is a dessert-tasting shake, Summer Fruits freshens things up. You can even mix this over ice and add some fresh berries for that added vitamin C blast.

It might not quite feel like sipping on a cocktail, but its about the next best thing, and way better for your training goals! As far as protein shakes go, we had to put this in our top 10 flavours.

(Edit: This one is no longer available – November 2024)

7. Natural Strawberry

MyProtein Whey Nutritional Information Natural Strawberry

If you find some of the flavourings in protein shakes to be artificial that’s because… well, they are artificial. Myprotein has tried to rectify that with their natural range, which includes natural flavourings rather than artificial ones.

The result is a higher sugar content (Edit: sugar content has since been reduced), but these natural sugars are all good so long as you aren’t caning cans of Coca Cola all day long.

Strawberry is another big favourite and has a history of being a top seller for protein shakes – this one tastes great, has a lovely smooth texture, and packs 22g of protein per scoop.

8. Salted Caramel

MyProtein Whey Nutritional Information Salted Caramel

This one is more of an acquired taste, and the chances are you will either love it or absolutely hate it.

The general consensus in the Fitness Brain office was that it was a hit, but one member of the team refused anything more than a sip after the initial tasting.

The sweet yet savoury taste is not too dissimilar to mixing peanut butter and honey or maple syrup in your overnight oats – but of course it has that little bit of added salt flavouring.

Nutritionally, this flavour ticks all the boxes and if you like salted caramel you will like this. However, drinking it every day is a bit much for some, so we’d only suggest going for it if you really love salted caramel. We also found that this flavour was best mixed with milk.

9. Banana

MyProtein Whey Nutritional Information Banana

Another of the classic flavours, and again it is probably not surprising that all three classic flavours make the top 10.

Banana is the least popular of the ‘big 3’, but this is a really good version of banana flavour from Myprotein. There are actually two varieties of banana flavour from Myprotein with natural banana, and straight up banana – the latter being the one we preferred.

22g of protein per scoop are combined with 5g of BCAAs to provide a nutritionally well balanced blend of whey protein.

We could not fault the flavour, consistency, or how easy it was to digest, and it was even good enough to convert one member of the team to Myprotein from a more expensive brand for the foreseeable future – enough said!

10. Chocolate Coconut

MyProtein Whey Nutritional Information Chocolate Caramel

Another interesting flavour combination here, and one that we usually associate with Indian desserts than with protein flavours. And if truth be told, we didn’t hold out too much hope for this flavour combo.

But we were more than mildly surprised. Think Bounty, but with a little less coconut taste and you are on your way to imagining what this tastes like.

Mix with milk if you prefer a lighter chocolate flavour, but we should point out that this mixed pretty well with water too. This one did sit a little heavier on the stomach, but that was on a double scoop and it was nothing too difficult to handle.

Overall, we are happy to say this flavour snuck into our top 10 flavours.

The Other 10 Chocolate Myprotein Flavours

With 13 chocolate flavours in the Myprotein range it would be easy to get lost choosing which one to go for.

As a general rule, we found all the chocolate flavours were pretty tasty, with subtle differences between most (excluding those mixed with a second flavour such as mint or orange), and most mixed well with milk or water.

In addition to the three that made the top 10, here is a brief summary of each of these chocolate flavours:

Chocolate Banana – A pleasant taste that will please those who can’t decide between banana and chocolate, but like both. Easy to drink and more chocolatey, with some subtle banana tones coming through.

Chocolate Caramel – A little sickly for most of us, as one of the sweetest chocolate flavourings on offer. If you have a really sweet tooth or want to feel like you’re having a treat, then this might be a good option for you.

Chocolate Nut – Light, nutty flavours come through this chocolate protein powder. An enjoyable taste with a nice smooth consistency.

Chocolate Orange – Not quite on Terry’s level, but a nice blend of chocolate and orange flavours that give you something a little different. Quite sweet, but pleasant all the same. We preferred it mixed with milk.

Chocolate Peanut Butter – We though’t we’d quite like this one, but it didn’t appeal as much as other chocolate flavours. Worth a try if you like peanut butter mixed with chocolate, but not a hit for us.

Chocolate Smooth – One of the best that didn’t make the top 10 list. This is your Ronseal of the Myprotein flavours – it does exactly what it says, giving you a super smooth chocolate consistency that tastes great.

Natural Chocolate – Similar to the smooth chocolate, but made with natural flavourings.

Chocolate Stevia – This had more of an artificial taste than the other chocolate offerings but was still very drinkable. This did not sit heavy and was easy to digest. (Edit: No longer available.)

Chocolate Mint Stevia – Similar to the chocolate mint flavour that made our top 10 and was very pleasant. (Edit: No longer available.)

White Chocolate – One for the pure chocolate fans here and those who like things sweet. We recommend mixing this white chocolate flavour with milk, otherwise a double scoop becomes quite a challenge to take on.

The Best of the Rest

With so many to choose from and of course being a fairly subjective review, it’s almost impossible to rank the rest of the best Myprotein flavours in order. But these are the others that we would recommend, with them pretty much tasting as you would expect:

Blueberry, Blueberry Cheesecake, Coconut, Coffee Caramel, Cookies and Cream, Chocolate Peanut Pretzel (new), Mango (new), Matcha Latte (new version), Latte, Pineapple, Plum, Raspberry, Strawberry Cream, White Gold, Tiramisu.

Myprotein also offer a range of vegan friendly protein – check out which one of their vegan range we think is best as well as other top vegan protein powders here.

The Ones We’d Avoid

These flavours might appeal to some people, but our general consensus within the office was that these flavours were not all that great. Some of them were just too sweet or just plain odd tasting:

Black Sesame, Cinnamon Dash, Golden Syrup, Liquorice, Maple Syrup, Marzipan, Milk Tea, Peach Tea, Red Bean, Sticky Toffee Pudding,

To Conclude

Most people find a flavour and stick to it, but what we have found with this Myprotein taste test is that it can pay to try something different.

Just like you should mix up your nutrition and exercise routines, it is probably a good idea to mix up your protein flavours – after all, you wouldn’t eat the same thing for dinner every day, so why restrict yourself to one flavour of protein when there are so many good ones to choose from?
