Choosing your training shorts used to be a pretty simple task – as the choice was pretty limited. These days however, there are so many options available – but when it comes to tough training sessions, we think we might have discovered the perfect pair of shorts, or have we?

Read on to find out what we thought of the BOXRAW Wilde Shorts in our full review.

As one of our ‘Trusted Suppliers‘, we are well aware of the quality of BOXRAW clothing and training equipment. With a clear focus on boxing apparel and equipment, they are a company we would consider to be class leaders in their field. But can their apparel have a broader audience, and can you benefit from their clothing whether you are in to combat sports or not? We tested out their Wilde Shorts to find out.

About The BOXRAW Wilde Shorts

The Wilde Shorts by BOXRAW are aimed at anyone undertaking grueling workout sessions. They appear suitable for anyone who wants to be able to undertake heavy workouts while feeling unrestricted yet supported.

The Wilde Shorts achieve this in a multitude of ways. First off, they are incredibly lightweight. In fact, I don’t think I can recall a pair of shorts that feel as lightweight as these.

Made from 93% polyester and 7% elastane for the main shorts, they also feature built in compression leggings that fall just below the main shorts line – the compression leggings are made from 90% polyester and 10% elastane.

The compression leggings offer an unparalleled level of support and in our testing, they did not cause any kind of discomfort – in fact, quite the opposite was true which we shall come on to shortly.

The black and charcoal colours complement the overall design perfectly, and when wearing the shorts the compression leggings actually look like part of the main shorts – the design is absolutely spot on.

There are two good sized zipped pockets on the sides which are extremely practical and have soft plastic handles on the zippers which make them easy to fasten and unfasten – even with sweaty fingers.

The shorts are lightly perforated towards the lower third which provides adequate ventilation and they feature a 4 way stretch for comfort. The waistline features additional BOXRAW detailing and can be tightened or loosened using the adjustable waistband found inside the shorts at the front – again, with additional BOXRAW detailing.

Finally, the shorts are designed using SMRT-TEC technology, which is something that BOXRAW have been developing for years with Boxing’s elite athletes and has allowed the company to create clothing that they call the ‘ultimate in sports performance’.

Using The BOXRAW Wilde Shorts

I didn’t think I could get quite so excited about a pair of shorts until I tested the Wilde Shorts from BOXRAW.

That is how good they are!

I used them for a few resistance training sessions and a couple of cardio training sessions prior to writing this Wild Shorts review and they were an ideal wear for both types of training.

To be honest, for resistance training they were probably a bit more than what you would usually need – but, they felt great and I have no doubt I was wearing the best pair of shorts in the entire gym at the time! Not only that, but the added stability I felt and the potential for reducing risk of injury were additional benefits not to be sniffed at.

For cardio or any kind of session that requires a fair amount of movement though, these shorts really come in to their own. Being lightweight, you hardly notice they are there, but the support that the super soft compression leggings provide means that you know you are in good hands (or shorts rather).

The zips are ideal for storing loose items. I wear an OURA ring which I often forget to take off when hitting the weights, but being able to zip it safely away in the shorts means I can take it off and not worry about it. The pockets are big enough for a phone and wallet but you’d probably want to take them out for more mobile training sessions as they will bounce around a fair bit due to the size of the pockets.

The only complaint I would have about the shorts is that the material can be a little lacking in the grip department when sitting on leather or PVC seats such as weights benches or rowing machine seats. This is not a deal breaker but it is something to be aware of.

Of course, these shorts were designed for more active and mobile use such as sparring, running and so on – and for these types of exercise they are ideal.

Despite the issue of stability, I personally will continue to wear them for resistance training as the shorts are just that comfortable to wear – and of course they look incredible.

Wilde Shorts Sizing

I am 6ft tall with a 33 inch waist and I opted for the large shorts. Judging by the fit I would say the sizing guidelines on the BOXRAW website are pretty much spot on. There are 7 sizes in total to choose from so there should be something for everybody – and with a good amount of adjustment in the waistband you should be comfortable when training.

If unsure, I’d suggest going for the next size up if you are borderline on any of the measurements.

Verdict

There is nothing not to like about the BOXRAW Wilde shorts. In fact, no – that is not a strong enough statement – these are possibly the best shorts I have ever worn for exercise.

I really didn’t think I’d be coming in to this review being quite so upbeat about a pair of shorts.

But upon first glance – I thought they looked incredible.

Upon first wear – I loved them.

They are not cheap at around £40 per pair, but you do get what you pay for and with the added support and other benefits you get from the compression leggings, they are more than worth their price tag. They also compare pretty favourably in terms of cost to other brands that don’t come close to these in terms of quality.

If you are on the hunt for some compression shorts then you can’t go far wrong with these.
