Matcha Fuel Review

Over the last few years Matcha has seen a surge in popularity globally, and the UK is now in a full on matcha frenzy. With trendy coffee shops now selling everything from matcha lattes to matcha cakes, consumers have cottoned on to the vast health benefits of drinking this Japanese green tea powder.

Not surprisingly, other matcha based products have also started to appear, and one that caught our eye was Matcha Fuel – billed as a functional matcha latte. Think matcha, nootropics and adaptogens all combined in to one instant drink powder and you’re on the right lines.

I’ve been drinking Matcha Fuel for the last few months to see if it really does offer all the benefits it suggests and now I’m here to spill the beans (or leaves in this case) in this Matcha Fuel review.

Quick Verdict: Matcha Fuel

Matcha Flow package

I like Matcha Fuel. It has a good quality set of ingredients and it tastes good (if not a little too sweet even for me). It doesn’t really have much of a matcha flavour to it but it does deliver energy.

Personally, I prefer Matcha Flow as it still gives the energy to power you physically but it also delivers more in terms of reducing brain fog and giving you a focus and cognition boost.

I also prefer that you can taste the matcha in it and it’s slightly cheaper per serving than Matcha Fuel.

Ingredients

Matcha Fuel combines premium organic ingredients to create a unique energy-boosting blend. I’ve analysed each component to understand how they work together to deliver sustained energy and focus.

Organic Ceremonial Matcha

The star ingredient is ceremonial-grade matcha. Matcha Fuel do give information to the provenance of their matcha – with this being from Kagoshima Japan and harvested once yearly from shade-grown baby tea leaves.

Each serving contains 2000mg of finely stone-milled powder delivering 70mg of caffeine and 35mg of L-theanine. I noticed the rich dark chocolate and roasted hazelnut notes with a smooth umami finish. According to their website, one serving provides the antioxidant equivalent of 10 regular green tea cups.

KSM-66 Ashwagandha

Matcha Fuel includes 200mg of full-spectrum extracted KSM-66 ashwagandha. This is supposed to reduce stress and anxiety without causing drowsiness. Clinical studies support its ability to lower cortisol levels and reduce stress-related food cravings. The dosage aligns well with research-backed effective amounts and I found myself pretty chilled when taking it.

Organic Lion’s Mane Mushroom

Matcha Fuel contains 800mg of 100% fruiting body Lion’s Mane extract. During my six-week trial I definitely felt like I experienced improved mental clarity and focus particularly during demanding work tasks. This mushroom is renowned for supporting nerve growth and cognitive function and there are studies to support this. The dosage here ensures you receive therapeutic benefits although there are some competitors such as Matcha Flow that have a slightly higher dose.

Organic Cordyceps Mushroom

Each serving of Matcha Fuel includes 800mg of pure Cordyceps mushroom extract. As an adaptogenic ingredient I found it noticeably enhanced my stamina during workouts. It’s specifically included to boost blood flow and energy levels. The full-spectrum extraction method preserves the beneficial compounds and I think this mushroom went some way to helping me push myself further. The jury is out on this mushroom when it comes to overall health impact and some people prefer not to use it – so use your own judgement here.

Organic Reishi Mushroom

With 300mg of Reishi mushroom extract this “Queen of Mushrooms” supports stress management and immune function. I appreciated its subtle calming effect that balanced the energy boost from the matcha. The extract in Matcha Fuel comes from 100% fruiting body ensuring potency.

Pure C8 MCT Oil

Each serving of Matcha Fuel contains 2000mg of purified C8 MCT oil derived from coconuts. This ketogenic fatty acid provided smooth sustained energy without crashes. The oil’s rapid absorption supports both brain function and fat metabolism and is said to make a fast impact on energy giving an almost instant boost.

Gluten-Free Oat Milk

The addition of gluten-free oat milk creates a creamy texture while adding protein and fibre. I enjoyed how it balanced the drink’s consistency making it similar to a café latte. This vegan-friendly ingredient enhances both nutrition and taste without heaviness.

Coconut Cream

Sourced from the “Tree of Life” coconuts this cream delivers rich smoothness. Through testing I found it created an indulgent mouthfeel without overwhelming other flavours. It complements the oat milk perfectly for a balanced creamy texture.

Stevia

A natural sweetener blend of stevia and erythritol provides subtle sweetness without sugar spikes. I appreciated that it avoided the common stevia aftertaste. The amount is carefully measured to enhance flavour while maintaining zero sugar content.

One thing I will say with Matcha Fuel is that it is very sweet. This comes from the Stevia and may be off-putting to consumers who don’t like overly sweet drinks – for me it is fine, but others may prefer a less sweet drink.

Features and Benefits

Matcha Fuel has some unique advantages that set it apart from standard energy drinks and coffee alternatives. Here’s my detailed breakdown of its key features and benefits based on daily use.

Energy and Focus Benefits

The 70mg of caffeine per serving delivers a noticeably smoother energy boost compared to my usual coffee. I experienced sustained alertness for 5-6 hours without any jitters or afternoon crashes. The L-theanine content works brilliantly with the caffeine creating a focused state that I found perfect for morning workouts and busy workdays. Unlike coffee which can leave me feeling anxious, the balanced energy from Matcha Fuel kept me productive without feeling overstimulated. I don’t think anyone could argue that Matcha Fuel delivers in the energy department.

Health and Wellness Advantages

I’ve noticed several wellness benefits during my six-week trial. The high antioxidant content (1384 ORAC units per serving) provides impressive immune support. I certainly felt well throughout the period of testing and overall felt good.

Taste and Texture

Matcha Fuel cup

When mixed properly the powder creates a smooth rich drink without any grittiness. I found the natural sweetness pleasant and not overpowering. You can mix with additional plant based milk to gives it a creamy texture that blends well with the earthy matcha notes. Using the included scoop I achieved consistent results – two scoops in 180-200ml of liquid creates the perfect consistency.

The vibrant green colour indicates its freshness and high quality which I’ve maintained by storing it in its airtight container.

User Experience

After six weeks of daily use I’ve found Matcha Fuel to be a reliable and effective energy-boosting supplement that delivers consistent results. The product has earned its impressive 4.6-star rating from over 2500 users for good reason.

Ease of Preparation

Matcha Fuel is easy to prepare. For my morning drink I simply add two scoops (20g) to 150ml of hot water and use a milk frother to blend until it foams. Some people prefer to add oat or coconut milk to it but for me there is enough oat milk in there to begin with – so I just add hot water and whisk.

Dosage and Timing

I typically take my first serving early morning about 30 minutes before exercise. The effects kick in within 20-30 minutes and provides sustained energy for a good few hour. I always avoid taking it too late in the afternoon to prevent any sleep disruption.

On particularly tough days or when I’m feeling very tired I sometimes have a second serving post-lunch but I’m careful not to exceed the recommended daily intake of two servings. The 70mg of caffeine per serving proves to be the sweet spot for steady alertness without jitters.

Side Effects

Throughout my testing period I experienced minimal side effects with Matcha Fuel. Unlike coffee it doesn’t cause stomach upset or acid reflux even on an empty stomach – at least it didn’t for me. The L-theanine certainly content helps prevent the anxiety and jitters often associated with caffeine.

It does make me thirsty after drinking a cup so I always try to have a glass of water with it. I did notice mild headaches on days when I forgot to stay properly hydrated whilst using it. Some users might experience slight nausea if consuming it without food though I personally haven’t had this issue.

Value for Money

After testing Matcha Fuel for six weeks I have found it offers excellent value considering its premium ingredients and proven benefits. It’s not cheap though, and at around £1.66 per drink it is on the premium side from a price perspective.

Serving Size and Duration

Each pouch contains 30 servings or 15 servings, depending which pack size you choose. A large pack would typically last me one month with daily use.

My Verdict

I like Matcha Fuel, but then I am a tea (and now Matcha) lover. I’ve also got a fair amount of experience with functional mushrooms and like to supplement to give me increased mental and physical performance. Matcha fuel delivers in this department.

I would however like to see a little more from it – especially given the price point.

It definitely is an upgrade on a standard tea or coffee. But for me, I’d like to see a few more cognition boosting ingredients such as B vitamins and perhaps a better mushroom complex.

It also tastes a little too sweet for me and contains a lot of stevia – something I know will put a lot of people off.

I’ve tried most of the functional Matcha drinks including Dirtea, No Ordinary Moments and Matcha Flow – and for me, the most complete is Matcha Flow – thanks to it’s inclusion of 3 mushrooms I love, vitamins B5, B6 and B12, a slightly bigger serving of matcha and less sweetener.
